A lovely trip to the Great White North to visit with Alan and Chuan and then onward to North Carolina to celebrate the New Year with the Wons.
We flew into Toronto and stayed the night at the artist-designed Red Room in the famous Gladstone Hotel in the artsy district. Left the next afternoon on a very pleasant and affordable train ride to Montreal where colder weather and snow was expected.
Stayed with a good friend of Henry's who took us around Montreal in his Audi. Montreal is a really nice, lively city with an interesting blend of old and new. Took a day trip out of town to go snowboarding and woke up the next day to one of Montreal's worst snow storm in a decade.
Our flights were cancelled and highways closed but business was as usual, the hardy Canadians were unfazed by several feet of snow and could be found trudging to work in the snow or shoveling their cars out of 6 foot tall snow banks.
Fortunately we got on a flight to North Carolina the following day and spent several fun days hanging out, working at the farm, fishing (for the boys), cooking, feasting, canoeing and playing cards.
And then it's 2013 and back to LA day after new year!
