A 'rain holiday' as Henry puts it, that begins as a brief stop in Portland for Henry (longer for me) and a 3-day road trip through the area around Columbia Gorge, Oregon as well as a stop over in Washington.

Unfortunately (or fortunately for the Oregonians), it only really rained for 2 out of the 7 days I was away and 4 days Henry was away. Most days were exceptionally great SoCal-like weather. What a bummer!!

Columbia Gorge was just astoundingly beautiful and lush with jaw dropping falls everywhere. We stopped by the unreal Oneonta Canyon, risking our lives over a complicated log jam, and hiked Eagle Creek, the quintessential Northwestern/Oregon hike -otherworldly, walls of moss, narrow ridges over scary gorge walls, crazy falls.

Stopped by the dam, a lovely sturgeon and trout farm and saw a 10 foot sturgeon named Herman. Camped a night by the river.
